Exploring Sanderson

The Desert Air Motel - Backyard

If you are looking for somewhere to relax, you don’t need to go far. Check out our “backyard” behind the doubles wing. Read a book or hang out with friends in the recreation building or the old school bus. There is plenty of seating and it’s in the shade.

This area of our motel is a work in progress, but feel free to explore and enjoy it while we continue working on it.

Local Businesses

We‘ve included some coupons for our guests to redeem at some of the local businesses. Go check them out! There is some good food to be had and some great merchandise for a souvenir.

Hike Javelina Hill & Hominy Hill

There are two hiking trails in the town. Both off great views of the town. Portions of the trails are not super well marked but just look for the stones that help mark the trail.

The Hominy Hill Trailhead is at the end of School St. The Javelina Hill Trailhead is on Wilson St. just north of HWY90.

Terrell County Visitor Center

Stop into the Terrell County Visitors Center for information on Sanderson and the surrounding area. Next to the visitor center is a small memorial park honoring those who perished in the flood of 1965.

Star Gazing

The stars in west TX are amazing. If star gazing is your thing, you only need to get a little way out of town for some excellent viewing. The most convenient spot is 4 miles east on HWY 90. There is a picnic area called Blue Star. This is also a great spot to watch the trains during the day.

Ride a Bike

We have a couple of cruiser bikes for our guests. If you would like to take them for a ride, let us know at the office.

Bi-Centennial Park

Bi-Centennial Park is the town recreational area with a playground, public pool and public library close by.
