First Solar Powered Motel in Terrell County!

We are happy to officially announce that we got the ole Desert Air Motel operating on Solar Power! We are confident in our claim that this is the first motel in Terrell County to be solar powered, but held back from a grandious claim staking all of Big Bend Country. We need a little more research to claim this one and the power company was not forthcoming. In any case, we are happy to do our little part in being friendly to Mother Earth!

The energy consumption of the motel is a bit of a mystery having only owned her since July, but we can definitely say that the energy bills are HIGH in the summer (thanks to a bunch of window unit ACs) and a bit lower in the winter (when the propane heaters kick on). As part of the ongoing renovation effort we plan on remedying the air conditioning situation and doing other energy conservation measures. Our goal is to eventually get to a point where the motel is producing all its power from Solar! All in good time, hopefully sooner than later…

I can’t end this BLOG without giving a shoutout to Native Solar who designed and coordinated the installation, along with the installation team. Chris Renner and his installers were great to have stay with us. Thanks for a fun time and a quality installation!
